Overview: Pharmaceutical Negligence
It is estimated that every year over 100,000 Americans die from prescription drug adverse reactions and side effects. In fact, it is widely believed that more Americans die as a result of prescription drug interactions or side affects that from using illegal drugs. Many other people are seriously and permanently injured as the result of adverse reactions from prescription drugs. In some cases, the drug manufacturer fails to warn about side effects it knows, or should know, may occur. In other cases, the pharmacy mislabels a prescription drug or dispenses the wrong dose or drug.
Additionally, the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is under constant pressure from drug manufacturers to approve drugs quickly, which in many cases proves to be premature. Some drugs that undergo FDA review, are given "fast track" status, which greatly reduces the time it usually takes to get drugs approved. Sometimes drugs are approved before all the side effects are noticed and can ultimately do much greater harm than good.
